What a great group of veteran and rookie Papawai divers who showed up on October 25th to help the reef this beautiful Saturday morning!

Papawai

Volunteers for this outing were: Jessica Albietz, Wendy Boddan, Mark Deakos, Bobby John, David Kauhaahaa, Travis Matteson, Cassie Pali, Brian Seifert, Jordan Spalding, and Whitney White.

While Lloyd Johnson couldn’t be there for this one, he is the driving force behind all these cleanups and was there in spirit.

Surface conditions were quite windy, and our three free divers must’ve gotten tossed around a little. Fortunately, Cassie, David, and Wendy are awesome water people and helped haul all the debris away once the lift bags brought it to the surface.

Below the surface, conditions were calmer, allowing many of us to focus on all the line in the shallows while a few divers headed deeper to collect far flung lead that the fisherfolks cast.

In all we removed 48 pounds of lead, and an estimated 1,500 feet of fishing line and tackle.

A huge thanks to Jessica, Bobby, Travis, Whitney, Mark, David, Cassie, Wendy, and Jordan for giving your time and effort to support healthy Hawaiian reefs.
